We have compiled 107 fun things to do when you get bored - these are tried and tested methods, so you will soon be having fun again in no time. We have listed some ideas for when you are bored at home and some for when you're out and about.
1) Commentate other peoples lives
Go to a public place and observe what people are doing. There could be a couple who look like they're on a first date or some friends having an argument or a policeman trying to control a crowd. What do you think they're saying? Try and come up with funny scenarios for what people are saying but be careful not to stare! This one is great on your own but even better when done with a friend. Look for places where people are interacting a lot. Amusement parks work great because there is so much going on; people reacting to rides, eating food, getting wet and kids who are tired after a long day. But you can do this anywhere, public parks, libraries or local squares.
2) Go for coffee and pay for the person behind you too
For all the people who are too busy to have a conversation or want to watch the world pass them by, this rule is for you. Just order your coffee and tell the cashier that you'd like to pay for the person behind you too. If the person is alright with it, take a seat and observe the interaction. If they're not okay with it, you can always slip out without anyone noticing. This rule works best when you pay for someone behind you at a fast food restaurant or cafeteria, but can also be used in a busy coffee shop if no one is too close to you.
3) Learn some new dance moves
No one can ever have enough dance moves. Whether you want to impress your friends, a new crush or just want to show off, learning some new dance moves is the way to go. It's easy to get lost in their maze of an encyclopedia so make sure you don't get stuck on one subject too long!

Some places even have free maps for local hiking trails so if you're traveling somewhere new and want to explore, this would be the perfect thing to do! This one is a lot easier than you might think! When you have some spare time, just go into the nearest café, restaurant or a mall and look around for anyone that might be alone. Then go up to them and start talking to them. This works best if they're eating alone or reading by themselves.

30) Host a movie night
Movie night is one of the best ways for friends and family to come together and have a great time. And not only is it a low-pressure, low-stress event, but you don't need much in order to host one! Pick a favorite movie, create an atmosphere with blankets, pillows, popcorn and snacks and pass around sodas.
31) Memorise a deck of cards
This is a great way to practice your memory. You can do this in your head, by looking at the cards every other day and memorizing them for the following week. Or you can use a different method of memorizing by folding the deck and using a pen to write down what each card means along with it's position in that deck. That way you know exactly how many times you've looked at that certain card so it's easy for you to recognize it again later.
32) Find a local event to get involved with
There are always fun things to do near you. For example: There could be a dog show, local fair, or free music festival. Even though we're on the internet, it's good to go out and get fresh air. Just head to your local newspaper and look at their website for local events. After you've found one that sounds like fun, check out the Facebook event page or google "event name + date" and find more stuff to do in that area for that day. Getting active with others is good for your mental health.
33) Visit a park
It's an easy and fun way to pass the time. Take a picnic, bring a book or just be fully present. But when you visit a park don't let other people bother you or get in your way. Simply observe people without judgement and be completely present with them.
34) Make someone smile
It's really simple, all you've got to do is smile at another person. I know it might seem like a weird task but sure you can do it! Start off by just smiling at someone who happens to pass by. You'll likely notice that you have the most obvious case of the grins while other people are literally close-mouthed and wouldn't dare smile! But don't stop here; even if you're alone, smile at someone around you or a store clerk or whatever will make another person feel a little bit better. This is the same technique that makes people feel better when they're in someone else's company.
35) Visit a local landmark
Start by finding a landmark that you've never seen before. If you're in London then go to the Tower of London, or if you're in Tokyo go to Akihabara. The Internet is a great place to find new landmarks and find out about them too. Once you've chosen your site, go there and observe it for a while. Start by writing down what the place looks like from a distance, then do from four different angles. Describe what the people around are doing, how they are acting and look at all of the inside! Then talk about what it looks like when you're standing there as compared to when you're three feet away or ten feet away.
36) Go for a weekend away
Spend two days, one night away somewhere close to home. If you live in a big city for example, try and find somewhere close by to stay for the weekend like a nearby village or beach resort. Make the most of your time away and make sure to spend plenty of time together and have fun. Plan fun activities like going out on a boat or going dancing or just spending hours relaxing on the beach or reading books together. If you're not in a relationship already, these weekends away will give you plenty of opportunity to spend time with each other while also doing fun things at the same time.
37) Learn origami
Everyone should know how to make an origami crane. The most famous one is the crane, but I prefer the elephant or shark. Origami is great for kids and adults because it's a fun and creative thing to do that can be done pretty much anywhere. Pack a square piece of paper in your pocket and when you're waiting for someone for 30 minutes, whip out your origami and fold something beautiful. It's very hard to be bored making origami!
38) Start a business
Plan how you would make your own business. It could be a mobile hair salon or a garage selling used cars or even a bakery that sells only cupcakes. What's important is that you have your own business name and logo on the card/flyer so you instantly look professional! Take these cards with you to starbucks, ice cream shops, grocery stores or anywhere else that has tables where people can sit (you'd be surprised). You just need to go up to people who are sitting down, hand them one of your cards and offer them a service for free! If they say no then just move on.
38) Make a paper aeroplane
This one is easy because it's literally made out of paper. However, there are some big pitfalls here; if you don't fly the plane and your aim is poor then you'll end up with a crumpled ball of paper which looks awful. Aim to be consistent in throwing the plane so make sure you have a flat surface. I like doing this in public places like parks or squares because it's easy to have another person throw the plane for you and you can practice several throws at once.
39) Bake a cake
Baking cakes is fun. It lets you use tools like whisks and spatulas. And it produces results quickly. On top of that, you get to eat the tasty finished product! So bake a cake or some cookies or a cheesecake if that's your thing. Stock up on cream and flavorings too. Chocolate icing is always a winner for me!
40) Learn how to draw
Drawing and painting are great ways to relax. You can invent your own characters, think of creatures or just let your mind wander while you do something creative. If you don't have any idea what you want to draw start with something simple like a flower or a circle and go from there. Some people use coloring books or coloring pens to color in the 'finished' drawings after they're done and they are great if you're just getting started.
42) Go to the gym
This is one of my favourites. If you enjoy fitness then you'll have no problem getting through an hour and half workout and the benefits are amazing. You only need a few things to keep you motivated: your favourite songs, a set of dumbbells or any weights that you can lift.
43) Listen to some music
Find some new music on YouTube or Spotify and listen to it on a walk. Pick a song you don't know the name of and let your imagination run wild. Or if your walk is long or hard, you can listen to a song that will get you in the mood.
44) Plan a holiday
First, open a wold map and decide where you would love to go. Then start planning your itinerary. Pick out the best hotels in the area that would stay in if your budget was unlimited, write down a list of things to do while you're there and decide which of your friends deserves to come with you (if any) on your amazing trip.
45) Plan your dream house
On your own, write down every room you thought of for each room in your house and make it as detailed as you can. You don't even need to have finished the house, just get the idea of what it would look like in your mind. When you have created an image, add a few details about what furniture would go where and how happy you would be to live there with your perfect partner!
46) Visit a botanical garden
The smell of the plants is nice and you'll learn about how plants grow while just walking around. They often have a wider range of varieties of plants than the local park. Often the plants are labelled too so you can learn something and maybe order them for your own garden if you like them enough!
47) Send a postcard to a friend
When was the last time you send a postcard? They are so fun to write and make recipients feel great because they are so personal! When you're done, stamp it and stick it in the mailbox.
48) Paint your nails
This can be done anywhere and it's a great way to relax. A few things you need are some nail polish and a nail file. All you do is paint your nails and file them down. But be careful, sometimes you might get distracted by how pretty they look when they're dry or how much better they smell after a coat of varnish! You end up staring at them for ages.
49) Clean out your car
It's a great feeling to get things organized and have a clean car. You can also sell stuff that you don't need or give it away to family members. If you have a truck or van it is best to do this in the driveway so that if anything gets lost you know exactly where it is. Cleaning out your car can also be a social activity; ask any friends if they want anything, and find people who are throwing out old furniture or appliances that they don't use anymore. You may not want these things but someone else may love them! And remember, when cleaning your car be careful not to throw out items of sentimental value like high-school year books or childhood photos.
50) Buy flowers for someone
You don't need a big bouquet of 10 flowers or anything, just something nice and unexpected. In the morning when you're out shopping, pick up a few flowers. You don't want to show up at someone's house with 10 roses so instead, just buy one rose, maybe two if you really want to be generous.
51) Go camping
Try and find a nice secluded area away from the hustle and bustle but close enough to civilisation. You could go by yourself or with friends or family. Try something new like canoeing, kayaking or a new activity you've never done before. If you bring along your phone then make sure to take some pictures of food that came out wrong or funny faces you might have made! You could also encourage others to try new things; maybe they don't want to go white water rafting but they'd be willing to watch you!
52) Read a book your friends have read
This is a great thing to enhance your friendship because you'll be doing something that they love. Everyone loves to talk about books, you know what I mean? It will be an icebreaker and just makes the conversation flow quite easily. If your friends hate reading books, find out what kind of books they have read and recommend books you think they would enjoy. They might even read them!
53) Watch a movie
Either in the theatre or on your own at home, take a look at the actors and actresses on-screen. Look for where they are looking, gestures they make, the different facial expressions. When watching films, you often discover new things about how people communicate other than with their words. Try to relate it to real life situations (other than the obvious ones). Also when watching a film you can often spot inconsistencies in how people speak and act so take note of that too!
54) Plan your meals for the week
Once a week, make a list of everything you plan to eat. Read your recipes and add ingredients when necessary. This can be hard because sometimes you think of an idea for a new dish and realize it needs something else, or you suddenly decide to cook a really big meal for one so you have to go shopping. But go through your list and decide what meals each day you're going to prepare. This will help cut down on how often you end up buying processed food because it will become easier to make meals every day instead of eating out once or twice a week.
55) Go on a date
Go to a restaurant, art gallery or just walk around your hometown. Do the things that couples do. If you're lucky enough to be in a relationship then congratulations! Just try and make it more interesting for each other. Find new places to go on dates or take turns choosing the activities you do together. It's all about trying new things, so surprise each other with your ideas and start conversations based on things that might happen during the date such as different foods being served, crazy waiters or funny phrases on items of food packaging!
56) Order pizza
Are you tired of eating the same thing all the time? Go out for a pizza and order however many toppings you like! If you always order the same thing at a restaurant, then try this at home. You can experiment with different types of pizza and add as much or as little as you want to your order - it's up to you. This is especially fun when having several friends over!
57) Go stargazing
Go outside on a clear night and look up at the stars. Let your eyes adjust to the dark, then look around and try to spot one that you can't see clearly. Zoom in to try and focus on the star, maybe you need to block out some other lights, or move further away from them - whatever it takes! Once you've spotted a star that's blurry but still visible, try and figure out which one it is. See how many constellations you can spot. This is one for the clear nights as if theres clouds you will not be able to see them.
58) Redecorate a room in your house
This one is great if you can get a friend to help you. The more information you have on each other's lives, the more fun you'll have redecorating. Show your friend what you've bought and ask them if it looks pretty. If your friend loves to do decorate, let them do the decorating thing while YOU overlook it all! You could also do this one when you go and stay at each others houses.
59) Go to the theatre
If you live near a city then there's bound to be theatres nearby. The best thing to do is to go in without a ticket and act like you are on your way into the play. Just walk past all the queuing customers and straight up the stairs or escalator. You could even walk into the actual auditorium itself! If you do get caught then just give them some money and say that you forgot your wallet or purse in your car.
60) Donate to charity
Not only are you helping people who really need it but you can feel good about yourself and offset any guilt you have about being so hilariously cool. Your donation will also go to a good cause! So be sure to give back to the community.
Want to help the environment? Donate to an environmental charity. Want to help people in need? There are numerous charities for different causes: homeless, hunger, animals, disaster relief etc.
61) Set goals for the next year
Set goals for the next year and focus on them. This exercise will help you to see what you want to achieve in life so you can better prepare for it. Before making your plans, create a bucket list of things that you want to do before the year is over. Maybe it's starting an online business, going on a vacation or buying a new bike.
62) Find a documentary to watch
This one is very easy to do. Search for documentaries online. If you don't have time to watch all this week's new releases then just scroll through the last week or two of titles and see which ones you like. Sit down with yourself and make a list of questions about each film you're going to watch. For example: Did I like the title? Did it interest me? What would I suggest? Then, start watching it… but if you're not doing this on your own then make sure you're with someone who can keep you focussed on what's happening and will stir up conversation while you watch the film.
63) Get a new haircut
It can be fun to change your hairstyle. Just go to a salon and pick a hairstyle you like. It's also fun to get a new hair color but keep in mind that it can take a long time for your natural hair color to grow out so make sure it is something you want to do
64) Call your grandparents
Grandparent's will always be happy to hear from you and it will be a great opportunity to catch up with them, so call them!
65) Paint your nails
Try painting your nails. People usually come up with weird ideas on what they want to paint. Try out the different shapes and colors. Or even try mixing it up! You could paint one nail red, the other green and the last blue. And if you have a few friends around you, try a fun nail design like teddy bears or something else that everyone will like!
66) Take yourself out for a meal
I always find that when I go out by myself, I notice so much more about my surroundings than when I'm with friends, or even worse, a date. You don't have to eat at a fancy restaurant for this one, just go to somewhere you'd regularly frequent if you were going out with friends. Make sure it's usually busy and make sure you sit in a booth so that you can see people coming into the restaurant and leaving; it makes things more interesting.
67) Buy your pet a new toy
There is no better feeling in life than seeing your pet enjoying themselves. Seeing them figure out a new toy is enjoyable for everyone involved so if you're bored, it's definitely worth getting one!
68) Go to the garden center
This one is a little silly but it's really good if you have a friend to do this with. Go to the garden center and simply act like you're interested in buying plants. Go up and down the lines of plants, look at them closely and touch them. Ask what the best flowers are for this time of year etc.. all important stuff!! If anyone asks what you're doing just say ' Just looking ' or if someone comes up and asks why you're looking at a particular plant just say that you can't remember the name of it so you had to come close, because sometimes you can't tell from far away.
69) Solve a riddle
There's a secret hidden somewhere. Do you have the ability to find it? What if it was in a book that was in your house? Maybe you have to find the exact sequence of letters or use some other special logic. Basically, if there's something you can't figure out, write it down and try to solve it.
70) Practice some tongue twisters
Tongue twisters are difficult to say but can be done by anybody. They're also very funny when said incorrectly. It's also a good way to warm up your voice before talking or recording. Here's one to get you started: "Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers"
71) Try a jigsaw puzzle
They're perfect if you just want to sit around and solve something. You don't need anything else, just some puzzles which are always fun to do. Even better if a friend happens to enjoy them too - that way you can work together and complete it in half the time!
72) Go to the cinema
The cinema is a great place to hangout and it is normal to go by yourself. If you are a bit shy to go alone, it's also a good idea to go with friends. Make sure you save plenty of time before going to the cinema so you can buy snacks and drinks in the foyer or at the snack bar, thats the best part!
73) Try a new restaurant
Always wanted to go to that new restaurant in town, but never have? This is a great chance to try something new.

If you start to get a system going you'll be amazed at how much money you can save. It becomes fun trying to see how much money you can save when you get into it so try just to persevere through the initial difficult times!
75) Solve a crossword
If you have a pen and paper, you can solve a crossword. You can cut it out of a newspaper or magazine, if you don't want to buy one. It is good to get started with 2-3 puzzles so that you have some variety and then spend more time on it. If don't have a newspaper, there are many websites where you can solve crosswords online.
76) Feed the birds

77) Make a video
This is one of the best, easiest and most enjoyable and useful hobbies you can get into. It could be anything from explaining what you're doing, to being creative and making a collage or even drawing pictures that represent you! You could even upload it to Youtube and let others see it if you feel comfortable.
78) Go to a concert
Go to a concert, maybe it's not your favourite artist but try and get tickets to something you wouldn't normally go to, this way you'll meet new people and have a great time. No need to be embarrassed about not knowing the lyrics or the song. I'm sure everyone else there doesn't know them either.
79) Have a picnic
Get together with a friend and find a nice area in the park to watch the world go by. Make sure you bring enough food and drink for a couple of hours. You don't want to have to keep getting up every fifteen minutes! This is a great way to get into the habit of spending time with friends and relaxing while still living an 'ourdoorsy' life.
80) Learn woodworking
There are tons of free videos and books about this. You can build anything from a simple desk to a giant wooden robot. This is a great hobby with many skills you can use in life and even become very lucrative as your hobby gets bigger. It can also help you learn how to fix things when they break around the house.
81) Go shopping
Try to find a store that you've never been to before. Look at every one of the products on display and try to come up with scenarios for each product/item as if they were in an advert or movie scene.
82) Make up with an old friend
Call up an old friend you haven't talked to in a while and arrange to meet up. This doesn't need to be a big chat about life; just a casual friendly catch up and exchange of what's been happening in your life. If possible, have food or drink so if you realise you don't have a lot in common any more you can at least talk about the food!
83) Get a massage
Who doesn't like massages? It's relaxing, it allows you to feel the benefits of a good workout without the soreness or pain and you get to chat with your masseuse. It also helps relieve stress and tension by getting your blood flowing. This is one of those things that's therapeutic in so many ways and that you do not even have to pay anyone to do it for you if you can get your partner to help!
84) Go to an exhibition
There's tons of free exhibitions around where you can go if you're feeling inspired. Young artists are always looking for people to check out their work so the best thing to do is find an art gallery that has an open day and then send them an email saying you're interested in their work. Another great place to visit is museums; most of them have rooms full of works from artists from all around the world. You might even meet some fellow art lovers there.
